Our Affiliate

Psychoanalytic Association of New York is a proud affiliate of NYU Grossman School of Medicine [within the Department of Psychiatry] / NYU Langone Health. The mission of the Department of Psychiatry at NYU Langone Health is to improve the wellbeing of patients by providing them with compassionate, evidence-based mental healthcare, offered through many locations, including affiliated facilities such as PANY.

Membership Organizations 

The Institute of Psychoanalytic Association of New York, is proud to be an ApsaA approved training institute. APsaA approved institutes maintain the highest quality psychoanalytic education as currently outlined in APsaA's Standards and Principles for Psychoanalytic Education. Approved training institutes maintain and implement the applicable educational, administrative, and professional standards of this Association for the teaching of psychoanalysis and the training of psychoanalysts.
PANY is a member institute of the American Association for Psychoanalytic Education (AAPE) and PANY faculty serve on its Board of Directors. AAPE is an independent, non-profit 501 (c) (3) standards organization, which fosters excellence in psychoanalytic education by establishing, promoting, and maintaining standards for psychoanalytic education in member institutes and centers. AAPE achieves its goals by means of periodic review of standards, site visits, and consultations. AAPE includes institutes and training programs that have agreed to meet these standards. The AAPE Board of Directors and its committees seek active participation from their institutes and professional organizations on issues bearing on standards and psychoanalytic education.
PANY Faculty serve as founders and members of the Board of Directors for the American Board of Psychoanalysis (ABPsa). ABPsa is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to serving the public interest and promoting the profession of psychoanalysis through certification and maintenance of certification. The mission of the ABPsa is to develop and provide reliable procedures and to implement processes for national certification in adult, child and adolescent psychoanalysis for qualified professionals based on a demonstration of post graduate clinical competence in the core competencies of psychoanalytic theory and practice, and to conduct ongoing assessment of such core competencies and the certification processes.
The Institute at PANY is an IPA Regional Training Institute. These institutes are authorised to train Candidates for the practice of clinical psychoanalysis in areas within their region. Graduates from Regional Training Institutes are put forward to the IPA’s Board of Representatives for Direct Membership. The IPA is a membership organization whose primary aim is to foster and enhance members’ sense of participation in and belonging to an international psychoanalytic organization and community. The IPA exists to advance psychoanalysis, and whose mission is to ensure the continued vigor and development of the science of psychoanalysis.

Joint Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis Training Program

Child and adolescent analytic education classes conducted in conjunction with the Child and Adolescent Divisions of the Columbia Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research and PANY. The core classes include courses in theory and technique, psychopathology, and continuous case seminars of children and adolescents.
